The new WhatsApp update is finally out now!
WhatsApp had previously announced that more than one billion users will be able to make video calls on iPhone, Android and Windows Phone devices “in the coming days.” But the update was only available to the beta users until now, WhatsApp has been beta testing this feature over the last few months.
After the update you will be able to make calls from the same call button that you used to make audio calls to your contacts! The call button will now sport two options aka - Audio & Video (call). The new update also rolls out a new sleek feature for forwarding images as well.
As you are using the video calling , you can use your front as well as rear camera. Also you would get mute option in case you don't want the receiver to hear your voice via microphone.
One of the biggest advantages of WhatsApp is that it is cross platform unlike Apple Facetime — which works on just iOS devices. Plus video calls made using WhatsApp are fully encrypted to prevent unauthorized access from snoopers. By adding the video calling feature, WhatsApp is now on par with other chatting apps like Facebook Messenger, Skype, Viber and Google Hangouts / Duo.
WhatsApp is also in the process of adding a two-step authentication to the App in order to prevent identity theft.
“We’re introducing this feature because we know that sometimes voice and text just aren’t enough. There’s no substitute for watching your grandchild take her first steps, or seeing your daughter’s face while she’s studying abroad. And we want to make these features available to everyone, not just those who can afford the most expensive new phones or live in countries with the best cellular networks,” said WhatsApp in a blogpost.
So just go and grab your updates from your respective AppStores! Happy calling! :)
