A malware/virus has been doing the rounds over facebook these days and this malware has been designed to take advantage of the facebook authentication vulnerabilities.Beware of a video link that has your name on it.It looks like the image above. If you come across one, don't click on it and delete it immediately.
A malware is a intrusive software or a virus in general terms, that can perform any unwanted actions and take decisions on your behalf once it gets inside your computer/smartphone.
What happens If someone clicks on it?!
If someone clicks on this link,it won't take you to a personal 'facebook timeline' or 'celebrating friendship on facebook' kind of vidoes that you might be expecting but to some scam facebook page to watch a funny video (which is not actually funny!) and while you try to figure out what the video is all about, the malware forcefully asks you to install chrome extension. This chrome extension then starts its job in the background,it steals your facebook password ( we normally keep ourselves logged into facebook via chrome especially the laptop users) and changes it to log you out from Facebook. Now starts the real game, this malware then posts similar custom video links to you friends and family with their name on it,as an inbox as well as timeline posts using your account.
There has been no official security step taken by Facebook and it might take some days before Facebook fixes this issue and rolls out a security patch for the users. Till then be cautious,be safe!
What if you have already clicked on one such link!
Follow the steps below-:
Use another device (other than one in which you got infected) to aunthenticate youself.
Use ur phone number to reset your facebook passsword.
Once the password reset page appears, tick on the option that says "logout of all devices other than this device" and reset your facebook account.
Once you regain access,go to activity logs and delete all the spams sent on our behalf. Also check your inbox for the spams sent to your contacts.
Use a good antivirus software (be it phone or laptop) and scan all your devices.
Be cautious of such fake links next time.
